Friedrich Wagenhals

Friedrich Wagenhals, 76, longtime resident of Mansfield, Ohio, died at Whidbey General Hospital on Sept. 6, 2005.

Mr. Wagenhals was born in Yugoslavia on June 16, 1929, to Franz Wagenhals and Katherina (Haas) Wagenhals. He was raised in Yugoslavia, where he met and married Magdalena Bajerle on May 30, 1951. The couple emigrated to the United States in 1956, settling in Mansfield, Ohio. Friedrich was employed for over forty years by Artesian Industries, a porcelain products manufacturer. He moved to Oak Harbor on July 17, 2005 to live with his son and family.

Friedrich was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Mansfield, Ohio. He was also a member and trustee of the Mansfield Liederkranz.

He is survived by his son, Reinhold “Ron” Wagenhals and wife Terry of Oak Harbor; one granddaughter, Maria Magdalena “Sunshine” Wagenhals of Kirkland; four step-grandchildren, Rosalie Perez and husband Zachary of Misawa AFB, Japan, Analie Gozum of El Cajon, Calif., Terri Lee Martin of Virginia Beach, Va., and James R. Louthan and wife Angie of Bellevue; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Katherina Breinich and husband Julius of Mansfield, Ohio, and stepmother, Elizabeth Wagenhals of Mansfield, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Magdalena in July 1994 and by a son, Friedrich, in June 1997.

Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. at Wappner Funeral Diretors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, Ohio. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. at Wappner Funeral Chapel with interment following at Mansfield Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
