Donald Pierce

Donald H. Pierce, 85, three-year resident of Oak Harbor, died July 1, 2004, at Careage of Whidbey in Coupeville.
Mr. Pierce was born in Artesia, Calif., Aug. 22, 1918, to Roy B. Pierce and Alice (Hanson) Pierce. He spent most of his entire lifetime in Trowbridge, Calif., near Sacramento. Don married Betty M. Richards June 16, 1940, in Reno, Nev. He was postmaster of the Trowbridge Post Office, located in Trowbridge General Store, which Don owned. In addition, he sold and repaired televisions for 20 years. He was a member of the Sierra View Golf and Country Club, and was the longest serving member of the Sacramento Swiss Sports Club.
Don was an avid football fan, and enjoyed sports in general. Following the death of his wife Betty, he moved to Oak Harbor in 2001, where he became a resident of Oak Harbor Retirement Community.
Don is survived by two sons, Roger Pierce and wife Diane of Oak Harbor, and Donald R. “Donnie” Pierce of Trowbridge, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Robert B., Tammy, Douglas, Kevin, Richard, Maryann and Christine Pierce; nine great-grandchildren; also, one brother, Robert Pierce of Cupertino, Calif.. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty on Feb. 28, 2001 and by his son Richard in March of 1981.
Services will be held in Trowbridge, Calif., with burial at Fairview Community Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Save the Pool, P.O. Box 225, Nicolaus, CA 95659, or to a charity of choice.
