Monte Shuttlesworth

Published June 20, 2004

Greatly loved and devoted husband, father, companion, brother and friend.

Monte was born Feb. 18, 1941, in Kellogg, Idaho, and died June 20, 2004, in Coupeville at his home. Monte was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses Jan. 11, 1959, at age 18. He was employed at Gale Insulation of Marysville.

He grew up in Montana, lived in Alaska for several years and moved to Coupeville in 1989.

Monte is survived by his wife Linda Shuttlesworth of 24 years, brother Lyle Shuttlesworth of Montana, sister Marguerite Bass of Idaho, and six children, Lenora Miller of Colorado, Deborah Laux of Washington, Danea Alexander of Utah, Amanda Leishman of Utah, Camille Young of Washington, Warren Shuttlesworth of Washington, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

He is remembered for his life long service to Jehovah, always doing the right thing even if it wasn’t the easiest thing. He had the privilege of serving Jehovah where the need was greater a few times, with a full heart and doing so brought him great joy. He always encouraged his family in the Bible’s promise for a New World because that gave him great hope for the future.

He had a great love for Alaska, for her vast beauty and her wild untamed heart, and he has missed her. His love of the mountains and immense sense of humor, devotion to his family, self-sacrificing spirit and love of music will live on in us all. He will always be remembered for being a wonderful husband and best friend to Linda. Many have loved deeply but never more deeply than the love they shared.

Monte was deeply loved by his family and will be vastly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 26, at the Coupeville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 331 Morris Road (Highway 20 and 331 Morris Road), and a reception will follow the memorial. All who knew Monte or his family are warmly welcome and invited. The reception will be held at Oak Harbor School District Administration Office.
