Howard Forrest Oakland

Howard Forrest Oakland, age 91, of Oak Harbor, entered Eternity Sunday, May 16, 2004. He had been a resident of Summerhill Retirement Center.
Mr. Oakland was born Nov. 6, 1912, in Aberdeen to Howard F. Oakland, Sr., and Isabella (Forrest) Oakland. He was raised in Hoquiam. On May 3, 1941, Howard married Barbara Flower. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II on board U.S. Navy vessels in the Pacific as officer in charge of entertainment. He attended the University of Washington, where he received a business degree. He was employed as a credit analyst for 30 years for Dunn and Bradstreet in Seattle. In 1997, Howard and Barbara moved from Seattle to Whidbey Island. He enjoyed gardening, and especially enjoyed raising tulips and trilliums.
Howard is survived by his wife Barbara; four sons, David Forrest Oakland and wife Becky of Pella, Iowa, John H. Oakland, M.D. and wife Kathy of Oak Harbor, Paul Richard Oakland of Slidell, La., and Scott Peter Oakland and wife Patti of Lynnwood; five grandchildren, Brian, Michael, Angie, Andrew and Aaron; also, four great-grandchildren, Teleia, Luke, Caleb and Alex.
A memorial graveside service will be held Saturday, May 22, at 10 a.m., at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Whidbey General Hospital MAC Clinic. Arrangements and cremation are under direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
