Geraldine Fisher

Geraldine Houston Fisher, 80, died May 10, 2004, at Careage of Whidbey, Coupeville having been ravaged by Alzheimer’s disease for 12 years. She was born in Hartman, Ark., July 21, 1923, to Jefferson Davis and Pearl Mae (Wooden) Houston.

Geraldine was raised in Hartman. She worked for a time in Van Buren, Ark., for a furniture manufacturing plant. She met George Ernest Fisher and on July 1, 1944, they were married in Van Buren. George was a military man and she followed his career around the world. Following retirement, the Fishers moved to Oak Harbor in 1970.

Mrs. Fisher enjoyed traveling, taking trips to Pearl Harbor, Germany and Tennessee. Her hobbies included quilting, gardening, reading, playing bunco and bingo, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Auxiliary.

Mrs. Fisher is survived by two daughters, Margaret Ninnemann and husband Timothy of Kent, and Ruth Alexander and husband George of Oak Harbor. Two sisters, Alva Houston and Maxie Don Houston, both of Ft. Smith Arkansas, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband George, by one daughter Edith Leilani Fisher, two brothers J.D. and Paul Odell and her parents.

Graveside funeral services for Geraldine Fisher were held Saturday, May 15, at West Mount Zion Cemetery, Hartman, Ark., with Rev. William Wewers officiating. Funeral arrangements by Burley Funeral Chapel.
