Arlene Vasquez

Arlene Christina Vasquez, 43, 35-year resident of Oak Harbor, died at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle Wednesday, March 10, 2004.

Mrs. Vasquez was born in Newport, Ore., on Oct. 23, 1961, to Frank Walls and Maxine (Edge) Walls. She resided in San Diego, and moved to Oak Harbor in 1969. She was a 1980 graduate of Oak Harbor High School. She married Ralph Vasquez Nov. 4, 1992.

Arlene had been blind for many years. Despite her handicap, she was a cheerful, upbeat person, who loved her pets and enjoyed telling jokes. She was a member of the Oak Harbor Assembly of God.

Arlene is survived by her husband Ralph, at home in Oak Harbor; her mother, Maxine Nelson and husband Don of Oak Harbor; her father, Franklin Walls and wife Laura of Oak Harbor; her sister, Deborah Olsen and husband Brian of Oak Harbor; her nieces and nephew, Sarah, Megan and Stephen Olsen; her mother-in-law Lois Vasquez of Everett; also, numerous other relatives.

A Memorial Service will be Tuesday, March 16, at 1 p.m. at Oak Harbor Assembly of God Church, Pastor Brent Sorlien officiating. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, 120 Wall Street, New York, N.Y. 10005-4001. Arrangements and cremation under direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
