Charlie Meyer

Charlie A. Meyer, 79, died March 1, 2004, after a long illness at his home in Sublimity, Ore. He was born Nov. 23, 1924, in Oak Harbor to John and Mamie Meyer. He grew up on the north end of Whidbey Island and graduated from Oak Harbor High School. In 1946 he joined the Army and served his country in Japan.

Charlie spent most of his life working in construction and logging in Washington, Oregon and Alaska. After retiring, Charlie spent many winters in the Arizona desert where many friends and family visited him. He loved to fish, read and was always close by when friends and family needed him.

Charlie is survived by his son, John (Linda) Meyer of Oak Harbor; daughter, Arlene (Steve) Allen of Chemault, Ore.; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and his brother, Rowland (Jean) Meyer. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers. Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 1, at 1 p.m. at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Cremation was conducted by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service of Salem, Ore.
