Funeral Mass for Anna Borkowski will be celebrated from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Coupeville, Saturday, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Ronald Belisle as Celebrant. Vigil Services were held Friday evening at St. Mary’s Church with Mr. Richard McCormick officiating.
Anna Borkowski, 86, died Feb. 18, 2004, at Careage of Whidbey, Coupeville. She was born Dec. 10, 1917, in Pittsburgh, Pa. Her mother died during childbirth and Anna was adopted at an early age by Andrew and Mary Anne (Lamnec) Gajda.
Anna spent most of her life in Pittsburgh and worked as a retail sales clerk. She was a lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Pittsburgh. Anna was married to Frank S. Borkowski in Pittsburgh Sept. 22, 1937. Anna and Frank had one son Julian and one daughter Marianne.
Anna loved people. She and Frank would often go to the malls to wander and meet friends. Her first love was her family. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 1996 and her son Julian in 1999. Following the death of her son, she moved to Whidbey Island to be near her daughter. Summer Hill Retirement Center became her new home. She enjoyed the companionship of many of residents of Summer Hill and the various trips they took together.
Anna is survived by her daughter Marianne Montrose of Coupeville and four grandchildren: Michelle Jones of Spanaway; Marianne Rojas of Federal Way; Pauline Ornburn of Coupeville and April Johnson of Orting. Six great-grandchildren, Jason and Jessica Ornburn of Coupeville and Joshua Johnson of Orting; and Sean, Trevor and Lauren Rojas, all of Federal Way also survive.
Rites of Committal will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Pittsburgh. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Coupeville. Arrangements are under the direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
