Ted Ostrom, 96, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, in Coupeville. He was 96. Ted was born in Los Angeles to Axel and Maria Ostrom Jan. 31, 1907. He was the recipient of the first Eagle Scout awarded at Camp Parsons.
Ted graduated from Broadway High School in Seattle in 1924 and from the University of Washington with a degree in economics and foreign trade in 1928. He received a scholarship to Harvard Business School, but his plans changed when he met Cecil Anne Caldwell on a cruise to San Francisco. They were married in 1932, a marriage that lasted until her death in 1988.
After a successful business career in Seattle, Ted “retired” at age 39 and purchased a 200-plus-acre waterfront dairy farm in Oak Harbor. He actively worked the farm for 14 years and in 1961 was named Dairyman of the Year. He retired again shortly thereafter.
Ted and Cec built their dream house on the beach west of Oak Harbor in 1968. They traveled extensively for several years and spent winters in Palm Desert, Calif.
Ted is survived by his son, Dr. Mike Ostrom and his wife, Cindy; by his daughter, Karin Ostrom and her husband, Ron Wilson; and by his grandchildren: Elizabeth Bassat, Jennifer Brooks, Matthew, Joseph, and Christian Ostrom.
At his request, no services will be held. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
