Nancy Kiyoko Beck

Nancy Kiyoko Beck, 84, died quietly Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, surrounded by her family at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. Graveside services were held Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Maple Leaf Cemetery with President Randy Lamb of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating.

Nancy was born in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii, June 22, 1919, one of ten children born to Matsuzo and Kamado Higa. Nancy moved with her family to Molokai and endured the hardship of the Depression, leaving Molokai at a young age to work in Honolulu to help support her family.

She married Richard Y. Wong in Honolulu and they had three children: Wallace, Anna Mae and Richard. She was remarried on June 25, 1953, to Raymond Rye Beck in Honolulu, Hawaii. They had five children: Edward, Debra Jean, Robert Harrell and Darrell.

Nancy and her family moved to Oak Harbor where the children graduated from Oak Harbor High School. Nancy left Oak Harbor and moved to Lake Tahoe, Calif., where she worked at Caesar’s Palace until her retirement after 23 years. She returned to live in Oak Harbor for a brief time following her retirement, and recently moved to Seattle, where she lived at Providence Mount Saint Vincent.

Nancy was a great Seattle Mariner’s fan and her cheering could be heard for miles. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Nancy was a very loving, compassionate person who put her family‚s needs first, taught by example, loved people and had a zest for life. Her infectious laughter will be greatly missed. She leaves behind five children, ten grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters and three brothers.
