Dolores May Holbrook

Dolores May Holbrook, 80, died Nov. 24, 2003 at Careage of Coupeville. She was born Sept. 30, 1923, in Tacoma to Floyd and Ila (Myers) Cook. She enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in Seattle on Dec. 8, 1943. She was honorably discharged Jan. 18, 1946, as a sergeant, at Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro, Calif.

Dolores married Lester Holbrook of Riggins, Idaho, Feb. 14, 1946, in Tacoma. She and Lester lived in Tacoma for two years before moving to Snohomish where they lived for more than 30 years. For the last 25 years, they lived in Coupeville. Dolores and Lester were snowbirds for many years, spending their winters in Arizona where they made many new friends.

Dolores was good with her hands. She loved to make things from rocks and gems she had found. She enjoyed painting, making rugs, jewelry, crocheting, knitting, reading and loved working with beads. She was a former member of the Lady Lions of Coupeville.

Dolores is survived by her husband of 58 years, Lester Holbrook at the family home, Coupeville; by three children and their spouses, Carolyn and Ron Curl of Lynnwood; Barbara Faught of Belfair and Roger and Juliet Holbrook of Mount Vernon; and by one sister, Virginia Gadwa of Moscow, Idaho. Nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren also survive.

Dolores loved people. She was a caregiver and had a loving heart. She will be deeply missed by her family.

Celebration of life services will be held at Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor, Saturday, Dec. 6, at 1 p.m. Cremation was held with private family inurnment to follow at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Lions Eye Bank. Arrangements by Burley Funeral Chapel.
