Donald J. Masten

Donald J. “Don” Masten, Jr., 72, of Cle Elum, died Oct. 27, 2003, at Renaissance Care Center in Yakima.

Don was born April 25, 1931, in Bellingham, to Donald Masten, Sr. and Margaret Patterson Masten. He was raised and educated in Bellingham and Seattle. Don served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He then lived on Whidbey Island for more than 27 years, where he was a commander of the South Whidbey Island American Legion and member and EMT for the South Whidbey Island Fire Department. He was also a commissioner of the Kittitas County Water District No. 7.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, growing flowers and vegetables and antique tractors, but his greatest joy was his family and home.

Survivors include his loving wife, Yvonne L. Masten of Cle Elum; three children, Stacy (Don) Gross of Puyallup, and Julie Young and Jim (Jennie) Masten, all of Seattle; step-children, Dean (Vicky) Robinson of Colville, grandchildren, six step-children, Dean (Vicky) Robinson of Colville, Randy (Katy) Robinson of Issaquah and Devin Mumau of Seattle; four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, one step-great granddaughter; and three sisters, Marlene (Jim) Grimes of Yakima and Linda (Jack) Bailey and Bonnie (Charles) Sanders, all of Wenatchee.

Don was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Chestnut Street Baptist Church, 609 North Chestnut, Ellensburg.
