Stella Hamlin

Stella M. Hamlin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend, died peacefully on the morning of Oct. 8, 2003, at Tri-City Chaplaincy Hospital in Pasco. Stella was born Dec. 24, 1912, in Anaconda, Mont., the daughter of Bob and Estella Totten; moving to Helena shortly after. She was raised by her grandparents following her mother’s death. She attended Helena schools, graduating from Helena High School in 1930.

Stella married Albert (Jiggs) Hamlin Aug. 27, 1932. They had three daughters. They celebrated their 25th anniversary. They were married until Jiggs’ death in 1970. She married Edward Hamlin in December 1974. They were married until his death in 1984. She was employed by Montana Highway Patrol office before retiring from Immigration Naturalization.

Stella resided in Helena, Mont., for 84 years before moving to Oak Harbor; making her home at Whidbey Cottages on Whidbey Avenue. She lived her final months in Pasco.

She is survived by her three daughters: Delores Randall and husband Les, MaryAnn Safford and husband Tom of Oak Harbor, Grace Cooper and husband O.D. Cooper of Pasco; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and half-brothers Dick Totten of Spokane and Warren Totten of St. Louis.

Arrangements and cremation were under the directions of Columbia Memorial Chapel and Gardens of Pasco. In the spring of 2004, there will be a graveside memorial for Stella when her ashes are laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Helena, Mont.
