Zook wins another title; Wildcats finish sixth / Wrestling

Oak Harbor High School wrestler Sam Zook made it 3-for-3 this season when he won an individual title at the 17-team Graham Morin Invitational Tournament Saturday, Dec. 17, at Bellingham’s Squalicum High School.

Zook, a senior, also won titles in the 285-pound class in tournaments at Edmonds-Woodway and Decatur high schools earlier this month.

Three other Wildcats placed in the Morin. Blake McBride (145 pounds), Nick Dugin (182) and Michael Fisken (195) all took third.

As a team, Oak Harbor finished sixth out of 17 with 95 points. Ferndale easily won with 239 points.

After receiving a bye, Zook, the state’s top-ranked 3A heavyweight, rolled to the title with three consecutive falls. He defeated Squalicum’s Dominick Mack in the title match.

McBride, a sophomore, lost in the quarterfinals and then won three in a row to get third.

Senior Dugin and sophomore Fisken both lost in the semifinals and won three of four matches, all by falls.

Oak Harbor goes back to Squalicum at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, for the eight-team Storm Duals.
