Zook, Bain win titles at Edmonds Invitational / Wrestling

Sam Zook and Meredith Bain each took first place at the 20-team Edmonds Invitational wrestling tournament Saturday, Dec. 3, at Edmonds-Woodway High School.

Bonney Lake won the varsity boys tournament with 225 points; Oak Harbor was 16th with 32. No team scoring was kept in the girls and JV divisions.

Zook (285 pounds) was the only Wildcat varsity boy to place.

On the girls side, Caitlin Woodworth (159-167) finished second to join Bain (173-232) among the leaders.

After receiving a first-round bye, Zook won 4-0 and 3-0 before winning the championship bout 1-0 over Bonney Lake’s Sam Peterson.

Bain recorded two second-round falls to claim her crown.

Woodworth won by a fall (in 52 seconds) and then dropped the championship match 9-4.

Three Wildcat boys won one match each: Shamus Warden (106), Blake McBride (145) and Nick Dugin (182).

A handful of Wildcat boys placed in the JV division: Shingo Johnson (first, 136-7), Hayden Campbell (second, 261-4), Traiveyon Shaw (second, 124), Ben Pierzchala (third, 208-224), Jamal Graham (third, 87-94), Trevor Vaughn (third, 160-1), William Nickelson (fourth, 126), Darien Delgado (fourth, 138-140) and Brian Kawi (fourth, 161-6).

Oak Harbor opens its home season with a double dual match with Meadowdale and Kamiak at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8. Marysville-Pilchuck will also take part.
