Wolves, Wildcats start season at Island Jamboree / Track

The three Whidbey Island high school track teams received a taste of competition in the Island Jamboree Thursday, March 15, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

No team scores were kept in the abbreviated meet.

Winners for the Oak Harbor boys were Taeson Hardin, 100 meters, 11.44; Jeff Gordon, 200, 23.36; Mac Nuanez, 400, 52.84; Ben Gasper, 800, 2:07.34; 1,600, 4:43.78; Isaac Gomez, shot put, 43-11; discus, 142-11; Kyle Nickols, high jump, 5-10; and Andrew Miller, long jump, 20-01; triple jump, 40-00.5.

The top finishes by Coupeville boys were seconds by Danny Conlisk, 800, 2:15.83; Ryan Labrador, shot put, 38-05; Thane Peterson, discus, 90-05; and Jean Lund Olsen, long jump, 18-01.

Picking up wins for the Oak Harbor girls were Amaya Rittierodt, 100, 13.49; Jenna Cooley, 400, 1:03.42; long jump, 15-01; Lydia Dorsey, javelin, 103-11; Kristina Tirado, high jump, 4-08; triple jump, 29-10.5; and Naomi Garcia, pole vault, 6-06.

Earning first place for the Coupeville girls were Emma Smith, shot put, 29-09; Allison Wenzel, discus, 82-06; and Lauren Bayne, high jump, 4-08.

Oak Harbor, Meadowdale and Marysville Getchell tangle in a three-team meet at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at Quil Ceda Stadium at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

Coupeville goes to North Mason along with Olympic and Port Townsend for a four-team meet at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 21.
