Wolves topple North Mason / Soccer

A strong first half carried the Coupeville High School soccer team to a 5-3 non-league win over North Mason Friday, March 24, at Mickey Clark Field.

“We started the first half with the wind at our back and made good use of it,” Coupeville coach Kyle Nelson said, as his club raced to a 4-0 lead.

Four different Wolves — Zach Nall, Aram Leyva, Uriel Liquidano and Ethan Spark — scored in the opening period.

“In the second half the tables were turned and we had to step up the defensive effort, which mostly we did,” Nelson said.

North Mason (1-3) scored on a penalty kick after the break, then Leyva countered for Coupeville.

The Bulldogs “made it interesting,” Nelson said, by getting two more goals, “but the boys held steady.”

It was a “good, tough, physical win for us,” he added.

The Wolves (1-0, 2-2-1) return to Olympic League play when they travel to Silverdale to meet Klahowya (2-0, 3-1) at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 28.
