Wolves, Spartans play to wind-blown tie / Soccer

It was all about the wind.

Playing in a gale, the Coupeville High School and Forks soccer teams tied 3-3 Saturday, April 7, at Mickey Clark Field.

Each team scored all of its goals with the wind at its back.

The Wolves had the advantage in the first half when Ethan Spark, Derek Leyva and Aram Leyva each notched a goal.

The second half was hang-on time for Coupeville. The Spartans scored about halfway through the second period, then struck for two goals in a span for five minutes, netting the final point with four minutes remaining.

From there, the Wolves withstood Forks final push.

Forks came into the match with a 6-0 record and having outscored its opponents 32-1.

Coupeville (4-3-2) plays another non-league match at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Port Angeles (6-2-1).
