Wolves open season at preview meet / Cross country

Facing the rest of the league at the North Sound Conference preview meet hosted by Granite Falls Thursday at River Meadows Park in Arlington, the Coupeville High School cross country team received its first taste of competition this fall.

The Coupeville boys finished fifth out of six teams; the girls didn’t have enough runners to qualify for a team score.

South Whidbey won the boys race with 32 points; the Wolves tallied 148.

King’s took the girls race with 25 points.

The top five Coupeville boys in the 2-mile race were Mitchell Hall (25th, 12:38.2), Sam Wynn (38th, 13:02.5), Aidan Wilson (39th, 13:02.8), Reiley Araceley (47th, 13:43.5) and Tate Wyman (40th, 14:02.3).

Others competing were Cameron Epp (52nd, 14:04.3), Chris Ruck (53rd, 14:09.5), Aiden Anderson (55th, 14:16.7) and Eli Kastner (64th, 15:17.9).

Catherine Lhamon led the Coupeville girls, taking 13th (14:36.8). Also running were Alana Mihill (15th, 15:07.7), Claire Mayne (17th, 15:14.1) and Helen Strelow (19th, 15:45.4).

The Wolves will compete in the Sehome Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.
