“The Coupeville girls got back into the win column Thursday as they trounced Forks, 48-33.The Wolves led before the entire team took the court as the Spartans were called for a technical foul because they had a starter listed that wasn’t at the game. The ensuing free throws for Brianne King of Coupeville started a 14-4 run, 11 of which would be scored by King.King and Ashley Ellsworth-Bagby worked well together during the run, with Ellsworth-Bagby taking control of the ball and getting it to an open King. We play together a lot, said Ellsworth-Bagby. That really helps because we always know where each other is on the court. The first quarter ended with Forks cutting into the Wolves lead, but five three pointers in the period by Coupeville held the lead at 22-10.There were times when there was a lot of preassure and we just needed to slow it down and control the ball, said Emily Young.The second quarter was a lesson in futility for both teams and the sparse crowd that was in attendance. The win is significant in that the Wolves will now take a week off before playing at Port Townsend in a two-day tournament Dec. 27-28.We get three days off and that is all, said Ellsworth-Bagby.
