Wolves lose finale, head to playoffs / Soccer

First-place Klahowya Secondary School defeated the second-place Coupeville High School soccer team 6-1 Monday, April 30, at Mickey Clark Field.

The Eagles (8-0, 12-2-1) kept their four-year Olympic League winning streak alive. Coupeville, which finished the regular season with a 5-4 league record and 6-7-2 overall, now heads to the district tournament as the conference’s No. 2 seed.

The Wolves play Bellevue Christian (9-4) in a loser-out match at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Oak Harbor’s Wildcat Memorial Stadium. If Coupeville wins, it will face Vashon Island (12-1-3), the Nisqually League champion, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Tacoma’s Mount Tahoma High School.

Vashon Island defeated Coupeville 3-1 April 2 in a non-league match.

In regard to Monday’s loss to Klahowya, Coupeville coach Kyle Nelson said, “It just was not our night. We did get a goal off a nice volley from Aram (Leyva), otherwise we did not help ourselves.”
