Wolverines whip Wolves in waterlogged match / Soccer

The Coupeville High School soccer team lost 3-2 in a rain-soaked match at Friday Harbor Thursday.

The Wolves struck first on a goal set up by a corner kick. Natalie Hollrigel smacked the ball off the crossbar and Tia Wurzrainer punched in the rebound for the score.

The Wolverines countered by scoring twice to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

Coupeville played with a “renewed effort” in the second half, according to coach Kyle Nelson, and tied the score when Sophie Martin fired in a quick shot off a pass from Avalon Renninger.

Friday Harbor, however, scored the winner minutes later.

“A close game with a nice improvement from our game last weekend,” Nelson said. “Getting ready for conference play next week.”

The Wolves (0-2) begin league action when they travel to King’s (2-1) at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17.
