Wildcats, Wolves among teams at Westling Invitational / Cross country

Oak Harbor and Coupeville were among the 38 high schools and seven middle schools to compete in the 40th Carl Westling Invitational Cross Country Meet Saturday, Sept. 15, in Langley.

The meet included nine different divisions and 1,193 runners.

The high school course covered 5,000 meters, while the middle school route was 1.7 miles.

Oak Harbor, competing in the big school (3A/4A) division, was led by Alexis Smith, who finished 10th (20:32.53) among the girls, and Dallas Riddle-Stevens, who was 12th (16:48.47) in the boys race.

Lake Stevens’ Taylor Roe (18:51.08) won the girls race, while Shorecrest’s Erik Luu (15:55.69) paced the boys.

The Wildcats girls finished eighth (208 points) out of 13

teams in the big school division, won by Edmonds-Woodway (31).

The boys took 11th (271) out of 14 schools. Edmonds-Woodway also won the boys title with 47 points.

Coupeville, competing in the small school (2A and below) division, was guided by Catherine Lhamon (35th, 23:01.57) and Danny Conlisk (75th, 19:18.45).

The Wolves finished 20th (574) out of 21 boys teams. Meridian took first with 126. The Coupeville girls had only two runners and did not qualify for a team score.

In the middle school division, Coupeville’s Cole White (11:48.02) took eighth and Carolyn Lhamon was 12th (13:26.18) in their respective divisions.

The Langley boys (60) and girls (17) won the middle school team titles. The Coupeville boys (131) finished sixth and the girls (73) third.

Oak Harbor hosts its lone home meet of the year at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at Fort Nugent Park.

Coupeville High School’s next meet is 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at King’s.
