Wildcats win in romp over Marysville schools / Swimming

The Oak Harbor High School swim team swept the Marysville schools at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool Monday, Jan. 9.

The Wildcats topped Marysville Getchell 123-45 and Marysville-Pilchuck 127-42.

Bruce Vagt (200-meter freestyle, 2:15.51; 400 free, 4:54.64) and Micah Franklin (100 butterfly, 1:11.22; 100 backstroke, 1:17.13) each won two individual events to pace the Wildcats.

Enrique Perez (200 individual medley, 2:125.51) and Kenneth Morrow (100 breaststroke, 1:18.01) also picked up wins in both meets for Oak Harbor.

The Wildcats captured all three relays: 200 medley (Vagt, Morrow, Perez, Andrew Franssen), 2:06.1; 200 free (Perez, Morrow, Franssen, Jose Cabigting), 1:54.87; and 400 free (Vagt, Franklin, Garrett Karney, Cabigting), 4:35.46.

Collecting second-best times for Oak Harbor were Morrow (50 free, 27.58), Cabigting (100 fly, 1:20.68; 100 breast, 1:22.42), Perez (100 free, 58.49), Karney (400 free, 5:57.76), the 200 medley relay team (Franklin, Pablo Closson, Karney, Alex Hartley, 2:27.58) and the 200 free relay team (Hartley, Aaron Martinez, Closson, Kurtis Zylstra, 2:12.73).

Oak Harbor broke a four-meet losing streak with the win, upping its record to 3-4.

The Wildcats and Cascade (3-3) face Squalicum (1-1) in Bellingham at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12.
