Wildcats stun Stanwood / Boys wrestling

Taking advantage of its final chance to collect a conference win, the visiting Oak Harbor High School boys wrestling team upset 12th-ranked Stanwood 39-29 Thursday, Jan. 24.

The win was the Wildcats (1-5, 8-9) first in the Wesco North in six tries; Stanwood (3-3, 7-3) suffered its third loss of the season.

The highlight of the match was eighth-ranked Caleb Fitzgerald’s 8-6 win in overtime over fourth-ranked Isaac Ortega of Stanwood in the 132-pound bout.

Next up is the subregional tournament Friday (4 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m.), Feb. 1 and 2, at Everett High School.
