Wildcats pick up win, tie / Soccer

A win and a tie this week helped the Oak Harbor High School soccer team keep its postseason dreams alive.

The Wildcats defeated visiting Marysville-Pilchuck 3-0 Tuesday and then tied host Everett 3-3 Thursday.

Oak Harbor (3-8-1, 5-8-1) has two regular-season matches remaining. Snohomish (7-3-1, 8-4-1) visits at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, and the Wildcats go to Arlington (4-6-1, 5-7-1) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18.

Natalie Plush scored twice in the win over M-P. She netted the only first-half score and then hit a left-footer from distance after the break.

Morgan Lamar finished the scoring when she stole the ball and beat the Tomahawk goalie with a left-foot shot.

“Mikhaela Cortez led the back line in helping win with a shutout,” coach Mike Lonborg said.

The tie at Everett was a “frustrating game,” according to Lonborg.

“Everett played very physical and we had a hard time putting passes together,” he said. “We did not play our best game when we needed it.”

All the scoring came in the first half.

Plush buried another long shot, then after Everett countered, Tiana Jackson, with an assist from Peyton Rhyne, put Oak Harbor up 2-1.

The Seagulls then took a 3-2 lead with a pair of long-range goals.

Rhyne hit the tying goal with help from Jackson.

In the second half, Oak Harbor had chances, Lonborg said, but “just didn’t finish.”
