Wildcats overcome miscue to stop Stanwood / Softball

Bouncing back from a first-inning mistake, the Oak Harbor High School softball team won 4-2 at Stanwood Monday, May 8.

The win was the second of the season for the Wildcats (2-15, 2-17), both over Stanwood (6-11, 7-12).

Oak Harbor wraps up the season when Marysville-Pilchuck (10-6, 11-7) visits at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 9.

Oak Harbor 4, Stanwood 2

With two outs in the first inning, it appeared that Audrey Howard got the Wildcats off to a roaring start with a two-run home run. The round-tripper, however, was nullified when the lead runner missed third base.

Instead of registering two runs, Oak Harbor came away with none. The Wildcats didn’t let the mistake define the day and came back to score two runs in the second inning.

Megan Flood singled and Shea Davis reached on an error to get things going. Krissy Pagala singled in Flood and Davis scored on Taylor Wilson’s fielder’s choice.

Stanwood scored once in the third to make it 2-1.

Oak Harbor added another run in the fifth. Brooke Wilson reached on an error, moved up on a walk to Brooke Gilham and a single by Howard, and scored on an error off the bat of Miranda Wilson.

After the Spartans countered with a run in the bottom of the fifth, Oak Harbor came back to get the game’s final run in the sixth when Cierra LeGendre walked, Taylor Wilson was hit by a pitch and Brooke Wilson singled.

Stanwood put two runners on in the seventh but Oak Harbor and reliever LeGendre escaped the jam.

Howard led Oak Harbor with a double, single and two walks. Brooke Wilson, Flood, Davis and Pagala all added base hits.
