Wildcats finish seventh in first Wesco match / Boys golf

The Oak Harbor High School boys golf team opened conference play by placing sixth out of seven teams in the Wesco North match Thursday, March 23, at the Snohomish Golf Course.

Arlington won the match with a team score of 197; Oak Harbor shot 230.

Arlington’s Connor Stephens carded a one-under 35 over nine holes to lead the field of 40.

Oak Harbor’s Nick Krantz led the Wildcats with a 40, good for ninth place. Haven Brown was one shot back at 41, followed by Nick Whitley (43), Ryan Evans (51), Nate Thompson (55) and Mathew Boyd (61).

“Haven had one bad hole but played well,” coach David Smith said. “Nick Krantz played very well for his first varsity match and a really muddy course. Nick Whitley also shoot good today.

“I saw some very encouraging things happening. We just need to minimize the blow-up holes.”

The Wesco North teams will head to the Cedarcrest Golf Course in Marysville at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, for the next conference match.
