Wildcats fall to 1st-place Panthers / Girls basketball

The Snohomish High School girls basketball team kept a half-game lead in the Western Conference by clipping visiting Oak Harbor 53-21 Tuesday, Jan. 22.

The Panthers are now 10-1 in league play (11-6 overall), residing just above 9-1 Arlington and Archbishop Murphy.

Oak Harbor sits at the opposite end of the standings with a 0-11 mark.

Snohomish displayed its dominance early, outscoring the Wildcats 12-0 in the first quarter.

Oak Harbor got untracked in the second period and kept pace with the Panthers, trailing 22-9 at the break.

Snohomish re-established control in the third quarter and outscored the Wildcats 19-4 for a 41-13 lead.

Anna Jones paced Oak Harbor with 7 points, Mikhaela Cortez had 6, Jasmine Ford 3, Payton Parks 3 and Grace Waite 2.

Fifteen Panthers played and 12 scored, led by Maya DuChesne with 16.

Oak Harbor (0-11, 3-14) plays Everett (2-8, 7-9) at home at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25.
