Wildcats drop pair / Softball

The Oak Harbor High School softball team scored two touchdowns in a remarkable comeback against Arlington, but that wasn’t nearly enough as the Wildcats lost 24-14 in five innings at Hillcrest Elementary Wednesday, March 22.

The Wildcats also lost Tuesday in five, falling 15-0 at Snohomish.

Oak Harbor (0-3, 0-4) will attempt to break into the win column when it travels to Mariner (0-2) at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 23, for a non-league game.

After recording only two hits and no runs a day earlier in Snohomish, the Wildcat offense erupted against the Eagles.

Arlington raced to a 11-0 lead in the second inning, then Oak Harbor shocked the Eagles with a pair of six-run innings to tie the game at 12-12 after three innings.

The Eagles, however, continued to pile up runs while the Wildcat offense sputtered.

Doubles by Cierra LeGendre and Halle Carpenter highlighted Oak Harbor’s six-run second.

Singles by Carpenter and Brooke Gilham and a double by Audrey Howard helped Oak Harbor tie the game with six runs in the third.

Arlington tacked on 12 more runs over the next two innings as Oak Harbor countered with only two in the fifth on base hits by Carpenter and Megan Flood and a two-bagger by Taylor Wilson.

Howard and Davies registered the Wildcats’ lone hits and were the only Oak Harbor base runners in the one-sided loss.

The Panthers’ Bailey Greenlee and Sami Reynolds combined to strike out 13.
