Wildcats continue to cruise by competition / NJROTC

For the third time in three meets this season, the Oak Harbor High School NJROTC drill and rifle teams monopolized the competition at Marysville-Pilchuck High School Saturday, Feb. 11.

The event featured eight schools with Navy, Army, Air Force and Marine JROTC units.

Wildcat Battalion captured four of the six team events (Physical Strength, Armed Drill, Sporter Air Rifle and Precision Air Rifle) and was second in the other two.

Oak Harbor went 1-2 in Physical Strength, with the No. 1 group taking first, followed by No. 2.

Color Guard No. 2 placed second and Color Guard No. 1 finished fourth.

The Unarmed Drill team nabbed second.

Oak Harbor also won six of the eight individual events.

Chante Powell, Taylor Kesler and Autumn Coker swept the first three spots in Female Physical Strength.

Oak Harbor athletes went 1-2-4 in both rifle competitions.

In sporter, Steven Richards took top honors, followed by Jason Montano and Michael White. Elena Flake won the precision division; Austin McBride and Julia Flake were second and fourth.

In Dual Unarmed Exhibition Drill, Kelvin Canonizado and Jhaylan Munger finished first and Deither Tabucol and Kanoa King third.

Jonathan Francisco and Dylan Angell won Dual Armed Exhibition Drill, and Kyle Torres and Joseph Dixon placed fourth.

Alex Hartley was first and Dylan Sanchez fourth in Male Physical Strength.

Canonizado finished second in Unarmed Drill Team Commander, and Francisco was fifth in Armed Drill Team Commander.

The final regular season match is Saturday, Feb. 25, in Oak Harbor.
