Wildcats can’t find range at home / Boys golf

Unable to take advantage of its familiarity of the Whidbey Golf Club course, the Oak Harbor High School boys golf team slipped to sixth out of seven teams in the Wesco North match Thursday, April 27.

Not all was bad for the Wildcats. Freshman Nick Krantz shot a nine-over 81 to place fourth out of 41 golfers and move to fifth place in the season-long individual league standings.

Nick Whitley shot an 86 and moved up one spot to 17th.

Haven Brown carded a 90 with the help of an eagle on 18.

All three are in good shape to qualify for district, according to coach David Smith, and are in the running for a state berth.

Everett won Thursday’s match with a 423, followed by Arlington (433), Marysville-Pilchuck (435), Stanwood (446), Snohomish (453), Oak Harbor (463) and Marysville Getchell (471).

Josef Koznek of Everett was medalist at 74.

For Oak Harbor, nate Thompson finished at 101, Mathew Boyd at 105 and Will Nickelson at 109.

“I am really starting to enjoy the camaraderie I am seeing in the group,” Smith said. “They really seem to all get along and have a good time together.”

The final Wesco North match is 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at Everett’s Legion Golf Course.
