Two Oak Harbor teams qualify for championship game / Youth football

Two Oak Harbor teams will play in divisional championship games when they take part in the North Cascade Youth Football League Super Bowl Saturday, Nov. 12, at Mount Vernon High School.

Both Oak Harbor teams thumped clubs from Lakewood in the semifinals at Wildcat Memorial Stadium Saturday, Nov. 5. The Oak Harbor Midget Purple squad won 20-0 and the Seniors won 45-8.

In another semifinal game, the Oak Harbor Pee Wee Purple team lost 18-12 to host Mount Vernon.

The Oak Harbor Midgets will be looking for some revenge in their title clash with Sedro-Woolley Blue at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Sedro-Woolley (10-0) topped Oak Harbor (9-1) 20-14 during the regular season.

The Oak Harbor Seniors (10-0) face Mount Vernon (9-1) at 6:30 p.m. Oak Harbor won the regular-season meeting 13-6.

Oak Harbor Purple Midget 20, Lakewood 0

Tristin Gallaway bolted 40 yards for a touchdown on the game’s first drive and JJ Wilson tacked on the PAT for the only scoring in the first half.

After Lakewood started the second half with a four-and-out, Oak Harbor mounted a 10-play drive to add another touchdown by Gallaway to make it 14-0.

Ka’imi Asinsin tallied the final TD in the fourth quarter.

Interceptions by Ashaun Mitchell and Connor Cash helped the Oak Harbor defense post the shutout.

Oak Harbor Seniors 45, Lakewood 8

Oak Harbor converted twice on fourth down in its first drive to get the game off to a strong start. Malachi Rainey bulled in from the 4 for the opening score.

After Lakewood fumbled, Rainey scored again for Oak Harbor.

Cameron Asinsin tossed scoring passes to Jaden Brown and Corbin Taylor, Caden Leckelt raced 60 yards for another score and Tre Johnson added a short TD run for Oak Harbor.

While the offense with lighting up the scorebook, the Oak Harbor defense was producing its own highlights: five sacks, two fumble recoveries and four interceptions.

Leckelt, Rainey, Dominic Dean and Bennett Andersen produced the picks; Leckelt returned his for a TD.

Mount Vernon 18, Oak Harbor Pee Wee Purple 12

Jaylin Nixon scored in the first half to keep Oak Harbor within six at halftime, 12-6. In the third quarter, Jake Espinoza ran in from 5 yards to tie the game.

Mount Vernon countered with a TD with seven minutes remaining for the win.
