Thunderbirds top Oak Harbor / Girls basketball

The Shorewood High School girls basketball team shot well and Oak Harbor didn’t as the visiting Wildcats lost 58-33 Wednesday, Jan. 3.

“We just didn’t shoot,” Oak Harbor coach Jon Atkins said. “They got off to a hot start and we trailed much of the game.”

Davi Borromeo dropped in a pair of three-pointers and the Thunderbirds (2-1, 6-5) raced to a 14-6 first-quarter lead.

Jasmine Ford scored 4 points and Jordan Wood-Pina added a three-ball as Oak Harbor scored 11 points in the second quarter, but six different Thunderbirds scored to help Shorewood to a 30-17 halftime lead.

The margin was 43-26 heading into the final period.

Ford paced Oak Harbor with 15 points; Mia Littlejohn had 8, Samantha Hines 4, Miranda Wilson 3, Wood-Pina 3 and Leni Aguilar 2.

“Both of our posts (Ford and Hines) played well when we were able to get them the ball,” Atkins said.

Katie Taylor scored 16 points and Borromeo 14 for the T-Birds.

Oak Harbor (0-3, 3-8) hosts Stanwood (2-1, 6-4) at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5.
