Stuntz claims first in Round Whidbey / Sailing

Taking advantage of near perfect conditions, Oak Harbor’s Gary Stuntz sailed to first place in the Round Whidbey Regatta Saturday, May 6.

Stuntz circumnavigated Whidbey Island in 12 hours and 18 minutes, edging Oak Harbor’s Larry Munns by just over two minutes.

Everett’s Tom Buus took third out of seven boats.

The race, which started just outside of Deception Pass at 8:30 a.m., was held under clear skies and featured fairly steady westerly winds of 12-20 knots.

The boats sailed down the west side of the island and returned up the east, finishing in Oak Harbor. The final boat completed the trip at 12:29 a.m. Sunday.
