Snohomish’s defense slows Oak Harbor / Girls basketball

A strong defensive effort carried the fifth-ranked Snohomish High School girls basketball team to a 49-21 win over host Oak Harbor Friday, Dec. 16.

The Panthers limited the Wildcats to single digit scoring in each quarter, and only three Oak Harbor players tallied points in the game.

Byrn Langrock’s three-pointer was the Wildcats’ only score in the first quarter as the Panthers piled up 16.

Snohomish (2-0, 6-0), which finished second in the state 4A tournament last season, upped its lead to 31-8 at the break.

Oak Harbor held the Panthers to 5 third-quarter points but still trailed 36-14 after three periods.

Langrock completed the game with 10 points, Julie Jansen had 9 and Samantha Hines 2.

Eight Panthers scored, four with 7 or more points, led by 6-1 Ky Beckman with 13.

Oak Harbor (0-2, 2-5) plays Cascade (3-3) in a non-league home game at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20.
