Oak Harbor High School sophomore Alex Smith met her goal at the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championship Saturday, Dec. 10, at Veteran’s Park in Hoover, Ala.

Smith hoped to finish among the top 50, and she did just that, grabbing 48th in the 5,000-meter race in 20:57.

Smith, 16, competed in a field of 146 in the women’s 15-18 division, which was won by Kaylah Grant, 18, of Los Gatos, Calif., in 18:47.85.

In all, the meet featured 10 divisions and 932 athletes.
