Shorecrest stops Oak Harbor / Girls basketball

Excelling at both ends of the court, the visiting Shorecrest High School girls basketball to defeated Oak Harbor 67-21 Friday, Jan. 11.

The win upped the Scots’ record to 12-1, 7-1 in Wesco play, and kept Oak Harbor winless in conference action.

Oak Harbor (0-8, 3-11) goes to Stanwood (5-3, 8-6) at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, and then hosts Marysville-Pilchuck (0-8, 4-10) at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13.

Mikhaela Cortez and Emily Gouge hit three-pointers for Oak Harbor in the first quarter in the loss to Shorecrest, but it wasn’t nearly enough as the Scots led 17-6.

Shorecrest built its lead to 36-14 at halftime and then, behind 11 points from Amanda Lee, outscored the Wildcats 20-2 in the third period.

For the game, Oak Harbor received 5 points from Sami Olson and Gouge, 4 from Cortez and Jasmine Ford and 3 from Olivia Waite.

Lee tallied 19 points and Audrey Dietz 17 for the Scots.

The Wildcats played the game without injured starters Miranda Wilson and Payton Parks.

Oak Harbor coach Jon Atkins said positives in the game were his club’s ability to handle the Scots’ pressure and the aggressiveness of his players taking the ball to the hole on offense.
