Scots use OH errors to win in 11 innings / Baseball

In a game between two baseball teams seeking their first win, Shorecrest found what it was looking for.

The Scots had to work overtime, but they hung on to defeat host Oak Harbor 7-4 in 11 innings Friday, March 30.

Shorecrest is now 1-4 in Wesco play and 1-7 overall. Oak Harbor slipped to 0-6 and 0-7.

The Wildcats will have their hands full when they face first-place Arlington twice this week. The Eagles (6-0, 6-1) visit Oak Harbor at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, and the two teams meet in Arlington at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Shorecrest 7, Oak Harbor 4

Oak Harbor let this one slip through its fingers, committing four errors that resulted in five unearned runs.

The game featured strong relief pitching performances on both sides.

Nick Parker threw the final 6.1 innings for Shorecrest, blanking the Wildcats on two hits and striking out seven.

Ethan Pace tossed the last four innings for Oak Harbor and kept Shorecrest off the board until it scored three unearned runs in the 11th. Pace surrendered only two hits and fanned four.

Shorecrest scored two unearned runs off Oak Harbor starter Austin Boesch in the first inning and added another run in the third.

Oak Harbor scored twice in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 3-2. Chase Ogden started the inning with a single, then Aaron Martinez was it by a pitch and Donnie Kloewer walked to load the bases with one out. Ogden scored with Thomas Anderson walked and Martinez scored on Aiden McCarthy’s groundout.

Shorecrest scored again in the fifth to go up 4-2; Oak Harbor countered with two runs in its half.

With one out, Caleb Fitzgerald singled, went to second on a ground out and scored on Kloewer’s base hit. Anderson singled to score Kloewer.

The score remained 4-4 until the 11th when Shorecrest used a single, two errors and a triple — all with two outs — to plate three runs.

Kloewer finished with three hits for Oak Harbor; Anderson, Joe Dixon, Ogden and Fitzgerald had one each.

Boesch pitched seven innings, giving up seven hits and two earned runs and struck out three.
