School records fall as Wolves send 10 to state / Track

Impressive performances at the district track meet by Coupeville High School athletes produced three school records and 10 state qualifiers.

The top three finishers at the West Central 1A District Championships Friday and Saturday, May 19 and 20, in Renton earned state berths. The state meet is Thursday-Saturday, May 25-27, at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.

The Coupeville girls finished third and the boys fourth in team scoring in the nine-team district meet.

Junior Jacob Smith broke his own school record in the 200 meters while winning in 22.51. He also won the 100 (11.29) and ran on the winning 4×400 relay team (3:33.24) with Henry Wynn, Mitchell Carroll and Danny Conlisk.

Smith, Carroll, Cameron Toomey-Stout and Kyle Burnett placed fourth in the 4×100 (45.28).

Carroll added his own school record, leaping 43-03 in the triple jump, good for third. He placed second in the long jump with a personal best 20-02.5.

Conlisk tacked on wins in the 400 (51.42) and 800 (2:07.02), and Ariah Bepler jumped a personal record 5-10 to win the high jump.

Chris Battaglia was fifth in the high jump (5-04), seventh in the discus (103-11) and eighth in the shot put (37-04.25).

Toomey-Stout placed sixth in the long jump (19-03).

For the Coupeville girls, Lindsey Roberts established a new CHS 100-hurdle record of 15.97 while taking second.

She also ran on two winning relay teams (4×100, 51.05; 4×200, 1:47.67) with Lauren Grove, Mallory Kortuem and Maya Toomey-Stout.

In addition to qualifying for state in the relays, Maya Toomey-Stout will go in the 100 (fourth, 12.96) and 200 (third, 26.76). She met the state qualifying time in the 100 to earn at slot.

Lauren Bayne finished second in the high jump (4-08) and fourth in the javelin (92-11).

Grove was fourth in the 200 (27.27) and Kortuem was sixth in the 800 (2:39.09).

Other Wolves were competed at district were Skyler Lawrence (fourth, shot put, 30-06.25; sixth, discus, 80-02), McKenzie Meyer (fourth, pole vault, 6-06; seventh, 300 hurdles, 54.34), Allison Wenzel (fourth, discus, 84; eighth, 300 hurdles, 1:01.1), Alexxis Otto (fifth, shot, 28-00.25; seventh, discus, 80-01), Lucy Sandahl (fifth, 800, 2:38.48), Aurora Zanardi (sixth, triple jump, 30-10.5), Naika Hallam (seventh, javelin, 87-02) and the 4×400 relay of Natalie Hollrigel, Ashlie Shank, Sandahl and Meyer (fifth, 4:46.3).
