Sabertooth Shooting Squad snares state titles

Oak Harbor’s Sabertooth Shooting Squad started the season by winning a team and individual state title Nov. 17 and 18 in the Washington State Civilian Marksmanship Program Three Position Championships.

The postal match was held in three locations across the state (Seattle, Spokane and Vancouver), and the scores were compared to determine the final results.

Sabertooth, a group of Oak Harbor High School students coached by Dave Goodman, competed at West Seattle Stadium in a match hosted by the West Seattle Junior Rifle team, a designated feeder team for the Olympics.

The match involved shooting 20 shots from three positions (prone, standing and kneeling), with a perfect score of 600.

Sabertooth Shooting Squad (Trevor Westman, Ivan Snyder, Wesley Lohmann and Joshua Odeneal) captured the sporter team championship.

Another Sabertooth group (Megan Kunze, Alexis Kunze, Abby Payne and Anna Jones) finished second.

Trevor Adams and Summer Martin shot as alternates.

Westman won the individual sporter state title with a score of 520-15.

Oak Harbor dominated the sporter results. Snyder (510-6), Lohman (507-6), Odeneal (501-9), Megan Kunze (476-8), Alexis Kunze (463-7), Martin (450-6) and Jones (449-4) grabbed the next seven spots.

In the precision division, Sabertooth Shooting Squad (Lauren Crossley, James Hart, Rylan Quiros and Cierra LeGendre) finished third.
