Road warrior Wolves stomp North Mason / Softball

A nine-hour round trip did little to slow down the Coupeville High School softball team as it blitzed North Mason 16-2 in a five-inning non-league game Tuesday, April 11, in Belfair.

Despite the long trip and a short warmup time, the Wolves were “focused” and “took care of business,” according coach Kevin McGranahan.

Coupeville scored three times in the first inning and five in the second to take control from the get-go.

The Wolves scored single runs in the third and fifth innings, sandwiched around a six-run fourth.

Coupeville pounded out 12 hits and worked for six walks in an impressive offensive performance.

Katrina McGranahan led the hit parade with three hits, including a home run, good for four RBI and five runs. Sarah Wright also had three hits, with a double, four RBI and two runs. Mikayla Elfrank added a pair of hits, three runs and a stolen base.

Lauren Rose, Jae LeVine, Veronica Crownover and Robin Cedillo chipped in with singles.

McGranahan pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts, two walks and no earned runs.

“Our defense again played strong behind that pitching and kept any possible rallies from starting, “ coach McGranahan said. “I am extremely proud of these ladies and how they play as a team and not for themselves.”

The Wolves, now 7-0 (2-0 in league), will be tested Wednesday, April 12, at 3:30 p.m. when they host two-time league champion Chimacum (3-0, 4-1).
