Rise Academy stands out over weekend / Trampoline, tumbling, dance

Both of the Rise Academy of the Arts competitive teams from Oak Harbor put in strong showings at events over the weekend.

The Island Flyers trampoline and tumbling team competed at the Freedom Classic Saturday, Feb. 23, in Maple Valley.

The Rise dance company performed at the Dupree Dance Convention Friday through Sunday, Feb. 22-24, in Renton.

Island Flyers

Seven of the 12 Flyers who participated at Maple Valley came home with at least one first place.

Mailee Talo led the way by capturing three first places in Level 4 trampoline, double mini and tumbling. Her trampoline score was second overall regardless of age and gender.

Madison Walker was first overall in two events: Level 5 trampoline and double mini. She was also second overall in Level 6 tumbling.

Catrina Ocanas finished first overall in Level 7 trampoline and Level 5 tumbling, and she took second in Level 6 double mini.

Sidney Louis nabbed first overall in Level 4 trampoline, first (second overall) in Level 4 tumbling and seventh in Level 4 double mini.

Harmony Wertz took first overall in Level 6 double mini, third in Level 6 trampoline and fifth in Level 5 tumbling.

Leighlah Louis was first (second overall) in Level 5 trampoline and fourth in Level 5 double mini and tumbling.

Kenzie Walker claimed first (second overall) in Level 5 tumbling, fifth in Level 4 double mini and sixth in Level 4 trampoline.

Cassidy Gore was second in Level 5 trampoline and double mini and third overall in Level 5 tumbling.

Rylee Burlington finished second (third overall) in Level 5 double mini and third in Level 5 trampoline and tumbling.

Keira Smith placed third overall in Level 5 trampoline, fifth in Level 5 double mini and sixth in Level 5 tumbling.

Rosalie Wright took fourth in tumbling, fifth in trampoline and sixth in double mini at Level 4.

Arianna Hunt was fourth in tumbling, seventh in trampoline and 12th in tumbling at Level 5.

Dance Company

The Dupree event rated competitors as diamond (highest), platinum, gold, silver and bronze. The Rise Company scored gold or better in each category.

Platinum was earned by solo artists Lindy Reagan for “One Moment More” and Baily White for “Unsteady.”

Soloists Maliha Breaux (“Me Too”), Ariella Miguel (“Fabulous”), Hana Baldwin (“Concentrate”) and Lacey Dahl (“Everybody Wants to Rule the World”) all earned gold.

The intermediate dance company — Reagan, Olivia Rosser, Lesley Miguel, Emma Rosser, Baldwin and Dahl — received platinum for “Darkside” and gold for “Tears in Heaven.” It also captured a special award — Story Teller — for “Tears in Heaven.”

The petite dance company — Ellah Allred, Lucy Humphries, Sophia Batterman and Lilyana McFarland — earned gold of “Somebody” and gold (and second overall) for “Cruisin’ for a Brusin’.”

The mini dance company — Avery Hunt, Breaux, Miguel and Katrin Kurganov — received gold for “Almost There” and gold (fourth overall) for “At the Hop.”

Special routines performed by a mixture of dancers received gold and third overall for “Hit the Road Jack” and “Wake-up” and gold for “Salute” and “Candy Man.”

Harmony Wertz joined the Rise group as a guest dancer.

Breaux, Humphries, McFarland and Rosser earned half scholarships during the convention class auditions.
