Panthers too tough in doubles for Wildcats / Tennis

Snohomish used its strength in doubles to slip by the Oak Harbor tennis team 4-3 Wednesday, Sept. 19, on the Wildcats’ courts.

“We had strong play from our singles players,” coach Tino Gutierrez said. “Back to the drawing board with the doubles.”

Oak Harbor handily captured the second, third and fourth singles matches: Nathaniel Thompson won 6-2, 6-1; Micah Franklin won 6-2, 6-1; and Ezra Franklin won 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles play was a different story as all three Wildcat pairs fell: Ridgely Briddell/Elsian Atienza lost 6-0, 6-2; Samuel Peek/Nathan Merrill lost 6-2, 6-0; and Ethan Snell/Kyle Brown lost 6-0, 6-1.

Nick Krantz dropped the first singles match 6-1, 6-4.

Oak Harbor (0-2, 2-3) goes the Marysville-Pilchuck at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20.
