Oak Harbor gives Eagles another battle / Baseball

For the second day in a row, the Oak Harbor High School baseball team put a scare into first-place Arlington.

After the Eagles edged the Wildcats 1-0 Tuesday, they had to come from behind to beat host Oak Harbor 3-1 Wednesday, April 24.

In 13 other Wesco games, Arlington has beaten each opponent by at least four runs and by an average score of 9-1.

The Eagles, the state’s top-ranked 3A team, is now 15-0 in league play and 17-0 overall. Oak Harbor sits at 7-8 and 8-9.

The teams complete their three-game series at 4 p.m. Friday, April 26, in Arlington.

Arlington 3, Oak Harbor 1

The Wildcats scored first, picking up their run in the second inning.

Taylor Rummel started the second with a double, Joe Dixon was hit by a pitch and Andrew Dixon walked to load the bases. After two outs, Rummel scored on a wild pitch.

Arlington tied the game with a run in the third on a walk, stolen base and single with two outs.

The Eagles finished the scoring in the fifth, plating two runs on a single, Oak Harbor’s only error in the game, a walk and another single.

Both teams finished with five hits and left seven men on base.

Rummel, Austin Boesch, Noah Meffert, Donny Kloewer and Thomas Anderson collected Oak Harbor’s hits.

Ethan Pace (four innings) and Meffert (three innings) combined to pitch the five-hitter, striking out five and walking four.

Center fielder Boesch recorded the defensive play of the game, gunning down an Eagle at the plate trying to score from second on a single.
