Oak Harbor gets Wesco win / Tennis

The Oak Harbor High School tennis team earned its first Wesco win of the season Tuesday, April 18, with a 5-2 victory at Marysville-Pilchuck.

The Wildcats, however, fell 4-3 at home to Everett Wednesday.

Oak Harbor’s match at Marysville Getchell Monday was stopped about two-thirds into the contest because of rain. The two teams will complete the match prior to the regularly scheduled match May 2 when Getchell comes to Oak Harbor.

Oak Harbor (1-5, 3-7) hosts Marysville-Pilchuck (1-4, 2-6) at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 21.

The Tomahawks captured the first two singles matches, but Oak Harbor swept the five other contests to collect the win.

Singles: 1, Aelizah Espiritu lost 6-4, 6-3; 2, Peyton Carlson lost 6-3, 6-1; 3, Emma Lerch won 6-2, 6-1; 4, Maddie McKenzie won 7-6(3), 6-2.

Doubles: 1, Emma Wezeman/Emily Brown won 6-0, 6-7(4), 10-8; 2, MJ Timm/Chloe Stowell won 6-3, 7-5; 3, Alyssa Schneider/Sarah Smith won 6-4, 6-1.

Everett 4, Oak Harbor 3

The Wildcats won all three doubles matches but couldn’t pick up a win in singles as the Seagulls won a close match that featured a handful of tight contests.

Singles: 1, Espiritu lost 6-0, 6-0; 2, Carlson lost 6-1, 6-2; 3, Lerch lost 6-4, 6-4; 4, McKenzie lost 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Doubles: 1, Wezeman/Brown won 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-3; 2, Timm/Stowell won 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(5); 3, Johanna Schmidt/Smith won 6-1, 7-6(6).
