Oak Harbor falls to Everett, M-P / Baseball

Remaining winless in 2017, the Oak Harbor High School baseball team lost 2-1 at Everett Tuesday, March 21, and 13-4 to visiting Marysville-Pilchuck Wednesday.

Oak Harbor (0-3, 0-5) will attempt to break the skid when it plays M-P (1-0, 1-2) in a rematch at 4 p.m. Friday, March 24, in Marysville.

Wildcat Steven Richards pitched a three-hitter, striking out six, but Oak Harbor managed only two hits of its own in the tough loss.

All of the scoring came in the third inning. James Besaw walked, Chad Spradlin was hit by a pitch and Dylan Bailey singled to produce Oak Harbor’s run.

A walk, error and sacrifice helped the Seagulls plate their two.

Bailey’s second hit, a single in the fifth, was the only Oak Harbor base runner over the final four innings.

Marysville-Pilchuck 13, Oak Harbor 4

Oak Harbor out-hit the Tomahawks 8-7 but was stung by six errors, seven walks and three hit batters.

Marysville-Pilchuck broke open a 6-4 game with seven runs in the top of the seventh on two hits, three walks, three hit batters and an error.

Oak Harbor scored the first two runs, one each in the first two innings.

Bailey led off with a single, moved to third on a pair of wild pitches and then scored on Trent Benson’s infield hit.

Thomas Anderson singled in the second was bunted to second by Aaron Martinez, advanced to third on Spradlin’s single and scored on Cory Roberts’ fielder’s choice.

M-P scored twice in the third, once in the fourth and three times in the fifth to lead 6-2.

The Wildcats got two back in bottom of the sixth. Richards singled and Anderson reached on an error. Another error and a single by Spradlin produced the two runs.

Benson pitched the first five innings for Oak Harbor, yielding six runs, only one earned, on five hits, two walks and four strikeouts.

Benson, Anderson and Spradlin all finished with two hits to pace the Oak Harbor offense.
