Oak Harbor edged by Getchell / Softball

While the Oak Harbor High School softball team is still looking for its first win of 2018, things are definitely looking up.

Oak Harbor lost 5-3 to visiting Marysville Getchell Friday, March 23, as the Wildcats battled through their third consecutive competitive game.

“Great game,” coach Tashina Tosh said. “(The) girls played really well; everyone hit the ball well.”

Oak Harbor trailed 5-2 heading into the final inning and then put a scare into the Chargers.

Rylee Joseph blasted a lead-off home run to ignite the Wildcats, then Samantha Payne followed with a triple. Payne, however, wasn’t able to score as Oak Harbor had two runners cut down on the bases to stymie the rally.

Oak Harbor jumped to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning. Cierra LeGendre singled and then scored on Payne’s double. Payne scored on a wild pitch.

Getchell (2-1) scored twice in the third to tie the game and added two more runs in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Oak Harbor (0-4, 0-6) plays at Shorecrest (0-3, 1-4) at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 27.
