Oak Harbor drops match to league leaders / Soccer

The Oak Harbor High School soccer team put up a strong effort before falling 3-0 to first-place Shorewood Friday, April 13, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

Oak Harbor trailed only 1-0 at halftime, then the Thunderbirds countered off a Wildcat attack to add a goal in the second half. An own-goal by Oak Harbor finished the scoring.

The Wildcats pushed the T-birds “hard,” according to coach Jeff Laiblin, and had “several strong chances” to score late but couldn’t convert.

“We had a really strong performance defensively, with Ridgely Briddell, Diego Aranguri-Plummer and keeper Logan Holt turning in their best performances of the season,” Laiblin said. “We have a big week ahead, and if we can get our transition game on offense to match our defensive performance we have solid chances to come away with two wins.”

Oak Harbor (0-8, 0-11-1) plays two other teams that are winless in Wesco play this week. The Wildcats host Marysville Getchell (0-7, 1-9) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, and then travel to Stanwood (0-6-1, 0-9-2) for a 7:30 p.m. match Friday.

Oak Harbor and Stanwood played to a 0-0 non-league tie earlier this season.
