Arlington put away the visiting Oak Harbor High School baseball team with a six-run sixth inning on the way to winning the district tournament opener 10-0 Saturday, May 4.
The Wildcats (10-12) will now have to win two consecutive loser-out road games to qualify for the state tournament. The first is 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at Snohomish (10-11).
The Panthers won the three-game, regular-season series with Oak Harbor 2-1.
The Panthers lost their district opener 3-2 to Shorewood.
If Oak Harbor beats Snohomish, it will play at the winner of Meadowdale (11-10) and Lynnwood (10-12) at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 8.
Meadowdale lost 8-4 to Everett and Lynnwood fell 15-2 to Edmonds-Woodway in the first round of the playoffs.
Arlington 10, Oak Harbor 0 (six innings)
Oak Harbor hung with Arlington in its three-game Wesco series two weeks ago, losing three close games (1-0, 3-1, 2-1), and the Wildcats were within striking distance Saturday until the Eagles opened the sixth with six consecutive singles to take a 9-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Arlington starter Owen Bishop cut down the Wildcats with a two-hitter. He struck out eight and walked none.
Donny Kloewer singled in the first inning and Noah Meffert recorded a base hit in the sixth for the only Oak Harbor hits.
